Kraken the Whip #3
Primary Skating Position
Derby name and number
I wanted to choose a name that was both creative and conveyed a sense of fearsomeness that I didn't necessarily feel when I started skating. I'm a stay-at-home mother of three, I'm of small-stature, and I'm not especially strong. Being "Kraken" on the track certainly gives me an alter-ego. I love that the octopus (the mythical kraken was said to be some type of octopus or giant squid) is known for being highly intelligent and able to squeeze itself into impossibly tight spaces. As a derby jammer, my success depends on both of those traits. It also helps to have 8 arms when you care for young children all day!
Off the Track
I love to spend time with my children, my husband, my big ol' extended family, and my friends. I like to travel, bake (and then eat baked goods), ride horses, and crochet.
I grew up in a family devoted to baseball. My dad always tells me to keep my eye on the ball and keep swinging. “My motto was always to keep swinging. Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging.” – Hank Aaron
